Gossip Are Back...Bigger Then Ever (literally)

Gossip-Music For MenAlbum Review

Well it's been quite some time since we've heard from the dynamic trip that is Gossip and their latest offering makes us wonder what the hell were we listening to for the past 3 years?
Since there hit album Standing in the way of control they have been endlessly touring and it only occured to them that they should write a new record after a fan approached them and asked when they were going to do another album.
"well when do you want us to stop touring" Beth Ditto then replied. But alas, it must have a struck a chord as they hit the studio soon after and produced this Gem, hilariously titled Music For Men. I think this is their most solid work yet,and i can't really say that i was too much of a fan of their earlier work, but to me this is what they are supposed to be, they have discovered their sound.
Beth Ditto's voice is shining through in every track with such confidence and fire, that every track is radio-worthy but has enough sass and individuality to stay the indie-rockers that they have labeled themselves as in previous years.
I actually can say, by listening to the album in its entirety just 4 times, that i can say i'm a fully fledged fan now. I would deffiantly fork out $90 to go see them live (even just to see how big Beth actually is) and i deffiantly would fork out $16.99 for the album, which i did.
My favourite songs are ofcourse their first single of the record Heavy Cross which can be almost be confused with Standing In The Way.. but has alot more edge to it. Other gems are Four Letter Word, Men In Love, and For Keeps which i'm sure will soon rocket them into mainstream superstardom. I hope that dosn't happen anytime soon though, i can just see them conforming to major label needs, changing their sound to manifactured excessed pop and ultimately resulting in Beth losing half her body weight, oh the horror!. I couldn't imagine her being healthy, and i don't want to either. Is that too harsh?
Anyway, weight aside, this is slick, edgy 13-strong track album that is deffiantly for keeps!
By it now at all good record shops, and iTunes.

Pink Nearly Shows Us Her Pink Bits

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later right? Her high-flying circus antics that she is almost more well known for as to her to pop hits, nearly caused pink to fall to her demise at a recent show in Brisbane.
The "So What" singer was in the middle of one of her last songs for the night, when her bungee broke. eeeeek

"Rock goddess Pink proved she’s made of the tough stuff when her bungee broke in the middle of one of her high-flying acrobatics-inspired stunts.
Performing one of her last songs in the first leg of her Funhouse tour in Brisbane, the Cirque du Soleil-trained singer sent the audience into a frenzy when she almost fell to the stage. Pink had to make an emergency slide back to the stage on a long piece of silk from the heights of the Boondall Entertainment Centre on Tuesday"

A concert-goer said Pink was high in the air when the bungee broke.

A pink silk was thrown down to her from above,” said the concert-goer, 22. “She had to wrap her foot around the silk, then unclip two clips where she was held to the bungee and then slide down to the stage on the silk. It was amazing because she kept singing and basically we were left wondering if it was a part of the show.

And ofcourse, there is video footage. What's a concert without a teen, camera held tight to their chest waiting for that 'Youtube' moment. God bless ya.

This actually got me thinking what if Pink was to die? Australia would almost certainly go into depression.

Changeling

Changeling Film Review

I had the pleasure to see this film when it was in cinemas earlier on this year, but i was so confused as to why i was one of the only two people in the cinema?
Yet, when i went to see The Proposal last night, it was almost packed.
Not only have i nearly given up on Australia's music taste, but i have almost given up on our movie taste.
It indeed worries me that we will be consumed with Proposals and Bride Wars, as shiteous flms as they are, they are still selling tickets, were Oscar nominated gems such as Changeling slip by almost unnoticed
Well, thats my rant for the evening, now onto the actual review.

Like i said, i saw this movie in the cinema, but had nowhere to express my love for this film as i didn't have a blog at the time, but now that i do, and it's recently been released onto DVD, i now have that opportunity.
I don't remember the last time a film has had a huge impact on me lie this one has had. I honestly can say, i felt sick to my stomach after seeing this film. It didn't just sicken me because it was infact a true story, but the way Clint Eastwood has shot this masterpiece, is way beyond his years, and is much better then the more hyped Gran Torino not that that was a bad movie, it was infact also brilliant. But nothing can top this emotionaly driven film, it could possibly be his best film to date, as a director anyway.
The bummer is i cannot say too much about this movie as it will give too much away, as there are many twists and turns that need to be experienced on an oblivious leval.
But i can say that the performances are nothing short of spectacular, Angelina Jolie performs a hauntingly, fragile Character as Christine Collins, a woman who's son dissapears after she arrives home from work. And the currupt police do a great job of making me hate them, as i did, soooooooo much.
This gut-wrenching story grabs you from the get-go and dosn't let go of you until the heartbreaking finale.
Go rent this movie out right this minute, you will not be dissapointed.
Yes the subject matter is borderline depressing, but i will top fluffy peices of crap such as Bride Wars, anyday.

Clubbers Sneak Their Way To Top Of The Charts

Those sneaky little devils Sneaky Sound System have snuck their way to the Number 1 Position on the Club Charts in the UK.
It's always nice to hear about Aussie bands making it big overseas (it dosn't happen very often)
They have hit it big with "It's not my problem" a single they havn't released here yet. Let's hope they do, because the other two singles they released here sucked, and didn't do so well on the charts.
Good on them though. Let's hope they don't develope big heads as big as Connie's hair and forgot about little old Australia.
Bands tend to do that alot, are we not good enough??

Gig Guide

I've recently become overwhelmed with the amount of artists heading down under.
So i've decided to make a post dedicated to all the bands heading to our shores.
(Ones that are worth mentioning anyway)

Britney Spears-Yes i know, not exactly my type of music either but from what reports are saying overseas, it sounds like a pretty amazing show. Even if she does prance around stage miming with minimal movement. Seeing if she will re-inact her infamous headshaving moment is worth the ticket price alone.

Wow Music Blog

Whilst doing my daily internet lerking, i stumbled across a blog that i thought was quite cool.
It's called Mind-Melting Demo Disasters, and it's from an Indie Label who saught through demo tapes they are sent and upload the really bad ones for our listening pleasure.
And is responsible for giving this little gem, called 'making love' some free PR as it's been doing the rounds on numerous entertainment sites lately.
It's basically a song about how parents can talk about sex to their kids, classy right?
Here are the lyrics for the so-bad-it's-good track: from an unidentified artist (fair enough)

Kiss me goodnight
Go say your prayers
I’ll get the lights
Don’t be scared
Just climb into bed
Those bedbugs won’t bite
And don’t get upset at the noises at night

Sometimes Daddy asks questions
Sometimes Mommy says yes
Sometimes Mommy yells louder
Sometimes Daddy forgets
Sometimes we jump on the bed
That’s why you hear it squeak
That’s why the headboard rattles
That’s why it keeps the beat
Sometimes we jump so high
We hit our heads on the ceiling
That’s when you hear us scream
Cos sometimes we like that feeling
But don’t you dance on the mattress til you’re old enough
One day you’ll understand this
It’s called Making Love

There’s more words for that
There’s a roll in the hay
There’s a cat in the hat
There’s come out and play
There’s banging the door
There’s turning the screw
There’s four on the floor
There’s taming the shrew

Sometimes Daddy asks questions
Sometimes Mommy says yes
Sometimes Mommy yells louder
Sometimes Daddy forgets
Sometimes we jump on the bed
That’s why you hear it squeak
That’s why the headboard rattles
That’s why it keeps the beat
Sometimes we jump so high
We hit our heads on the ceiling
That’s when you hear us scream
Cos sometimes we like that feeling
But don’t you dance on the mattress til you’re old enough
One day you’ll understand this
It’s called Making Love

I’m glad we had this talk
But there’s more that you’ll discover
When you’re old enough to walk
Go ask your mother

One day you’ll need to know it
Till then I hope you buy it
When Daddy’s not at home
It may seem way too quiet
Then you’ll hear something buzzing
But you won’t know for sure
There’s no need for fussin’
No one needs a cure
It’s just Mommy missing Daddy
Most times that doesn’t faze her
But when she misses me badly
She sounds like my electric razor

Well sometimes we want to feel closer
But closer’s never enough
Just a poor substitution for
Making Love

But the site is not only good for entertainment, it's also a great way to hear unrealeased music from unsigned artists, and gives you a taste of just how many struggling musicians are out there, it's actually quite sad.

Samson & Delilah

Samson & DelilahMovie Review

Not really music related at all, but i loved it so much i need to tell you about it.

As soon as i heard the season of this movie was ending shortly, i rushed to the cinema to see this. And i am so glad i did.
This movie is one of the most beautiful love stories made and set in Australia that i've ever seen.
It revolves around two young, aboriginal teenagers raised in the slums of the Australian outback in a poverty-ridden area where everyone sleeps on moth eaten mattresess on grass, and survives on canned food.
Delilah, the young girl, looks after her grandmother who is terminally ill, and Samson is the troubled, petrol sniffing mute who lusts after Delilah.
After the sudden accidental death of her Grandma, Delilah is blamed and is repeatedly beaten by towns people seeking revenge.
Outraged Samson soon finds Delilah's battered body and goes on a destructive rampage. Smashing windows, beating people up, Samson loses control, steals the town ute and escapes the city, with Delilah.
The next hour is one of the most powerful cinema i have ever experienced. With very little dialogue at all, they tell the story with their emotions and do such an incredible job for first time actors.
This isn't everyones cup of tea, i actually didn't realise how much i loved this movie until the day after as it lingers with you hours after it's ending.
Haunting, visually stunning, powerful, shocking, depressed, joyful. I felt all these emotions in an hour and half, pretty impressive for a first time director, and a low budget Australian indie film.
I urge everyone to give it a try, go see it now as the season will end very soon. The scenery is amazing, and is intended to be seen at the cinema.
